December 1st, 2025 - devicethread is excited to announce El Carmen Hotel onboarding devicethread SmartAccess across its property in Antigua Guatemala. This milestone reflects devicethread's continued global expansion, as boutique properties in historic destinations look to modern access solutions that simplify day-to-day operations.

Simplifying Access in the Heart of Antigua

El Carmen Hotel, located just steps from Antigua's Plaza Central and the historic ruins of the Iglesia El Carmen, needed a simpler way to manage guest access without adding operational overhead or relying heavily on front-desk presence throughout the day.

With SmartAccess, El Carmen Hotel now offers guests a smooth, self-serve check-in experience, reducing manual access workflows and reception dependency, so the team can stay focused on the warm, personal hospitality the property is known for. SmartAccess was deployed across the property's 14 locks, using the existing hardware to avoid the cost and disruption of a full hardware replacement.

SmartAccess was also integrated directly with El Carmen Hotel's existing Cloudbeds PMS, allowing guest access to sync seamlessly with reservations and check-in data.

The deployment was managed entirely by the property's own team, reflecting how straightforward the SmartAccess onboarding process can be even for a small, self-managed hotel.
