devicethread Brings SmartAccess to Chapter SF in San Francisco, California
July 1st, 2026 - devicethread is excited to announce Chapter SF onboarding devicethread SmartAccess across its property in San Francisco, California — marking devicethread's first-ever deployment at a hostel property. This milestone reflects devicethread's continued expansion into the modern hospitality space, as boutique and community-style properties in dense urban markets look to reduce manual front-desk workflows without compromising the guest experience.
Contactless Access for a Modern City StayChapter SF, a 29-room property in the heart of San Francisco known for its sustainable pods and cabins designed for travelers and extended-stay professionals alike, needed a more efficient way to manage guest access — one that could support contactless, self-serve arrivals while easing the load on its front desk.
With SmartAccess, Chapter SF now offers guests a smooth, streamlined check-in experience, reducing manual access workflows and reception dependency, while staying true to the property's calm, modern, community-driven feel. The rollout included new smart locks installed across the property, giving Chapter SF a fully updated access system from the ground up.
SmartAccess was also integrated directly with Chapter SF's existing Cloudbeds PMS, allowing guest access to sync seamlessly with reservations and check-in data.
The entire onboarding was completed in just one hour a fast, low-disruption deployment that had Chapter SF live on SmartAccess almost immediately.
"Our guests range from travelers passing through to professionals staying for weeks at a time, so access needs to feel effortless for everyone," said Simon Sin, Owner of Chapter SF. "SmartAccess has made that possible, and it's freed up our team to focus on the guest experience instead of managing keys and check-ins."
"From a day-to-day standpoint, SmartAccess has made operations noticeably smoother," added Nathan Fafard, Property Manager of Chapter SF. "It's reduced the back-and-forth at the front desk and given our guests a more independent, seamless way to arrive."
The result is a more efficient, guest-friendly access experience that fits naturally into Chapter SF's modern, sustainable approach to hospitality.
Expanding devicethread's Reach in Major US MarketsThis onboarding reinforces devicethread's mission to build the agentic infrastructure layer for modern hospitality — bringing smart, scalable access solutions to properties of every style, from boutique urban stays to large multi-property portfolios, and now, hostels.
